A Wary Traveler

This is a depiction of a sailor that is cautiously making his way through a dark and wet bamboo forest. At first I started the piece with a large negative space of darkness on the left, but decided to cut through it graphically with a sword. This became a good exercise in warm and cool relationships, with the warm sun from the right side, and bits of sky reflected on the sword and on the wet leaves on the left side. I hope you enjoy it!

A Walk in the Snow

This image came about from a quick sketch I did a while back. I wanted to do a silhouetted shape breaking up the snow. I wanted to create a subtle sense of tension with the woman's turned head, as well as with the drawn sword.

I kept many areas loose with lots of brush strokes showing to keep the energy of the piece up, I of course spent a bit more time detailing the figure, but also wanted to maintain spontaneity in the strokes.

I was really focusing on the overall lighting quality of the piece and the mood that the dark forest suggests. I hope you enjoy it!

The Parthogenisis of Quanta 117

A lone pilot strides across his ship to deliver an item that will change a planet forever...

When I started this piece, I knew that I really wanted to explore the use of a graphic background, and set up the red glass in such a way as to also help silhouette the main character. I also focused on letting a lot of the elements fade into obscurity, and tried to create details with only the minimum of indication. It was really important to me to work out the lighting in order to give just a hint of light on the robe, which ultimately attracts your eye due to the contrast with the darkness.

I hope you enjoy it!

A Cold Winter

This is a depiction of an old and weathered research tent in the midst of a cold barren landscape. I wanted to use the white of the snow as a series of abstract shapes with lost edges, so I made sure to overexpose everything to give it a graphic look. I also focused on a subtle suggestion of clouds in the sky so as not to break up the the white too much. I hope you enjoy it, and any thoughts are greatly appreciated!
It's an old outpost village amidst snow capped mountains. I wanted to convey a somber and lonely scene for this one. All work was done in Photoshop. I hope you enjoy it!
I just began sketching, and this is what came of it. I was playing with a different lighting style, and wanted to do a little lost and found throughout the piece.

This was lots of fun, as this isn't what I usually do from day to day. I hope you enjoy it!
It's a Chinese inspired temple where the heroes must go to discover a hidden treasure that will help them on their quest...I can't give too much away, sorry! This took about a day or two at most. I'm not totally sure, because I had to work on it off and on. Let me know what you think!

This piece was done for a film project in the works. The main characters have just come upon a large sand castle in this scene. I kept it loose and conceptual, mostly establishing the feel and mood of the setting, with some indication of the design direction they could take. Hope you like it!
