This is a depiction of a sailor that is cautiously making his way through a dark and wet bamboo forest. At first I started the piece with a large negative space of darkness on the left, but decided to cut through it graphically with a sword. This became a good exercise in warm and cool relationships, with the warm sun from the right side, and bits of sky reflected on the sword and on the wet leaves on the left side. I hope you enjoy it!
